Book Review: Empire of Storms

Up to this moment, I am still at a loss as to what happened with Empire of Storms when Heir of Fire finally upped the game followed by Queen of Shadows that sizzled with so much amazing goodness. It was Maas’ momentum to finally steer the ship into the “fantasy” direction and then, Empire of Storms happened. Suddenly, I am at a loss at why Maas took the sudden turn towards erotica when we’re finally getting what Throne of Glass series promised us—a full blown fantasy with badass characters.  Empire of Storms was still a satisfactory read but a fantasy…

Book Review: Empire of Shadows

I love the cover. That’s the only positive thing that I can think of about Empire of Shadows.  Although it’s already the second book of the Bhinian Empire Series, it’s actually a prequel of book 1, A City of A Thousand Dolls.  It tells the story of Mara and Emil Arvi, the deceased parents of our protagonist in book 1, Nisha Arvi.  While I don’t have any issues with that, I still can’t understand why it was necessary for this book to exist other than vex the readers maybe or milk the cow some more. Yes, three days.  Normally, I can finish a 300-page book within 3-4 hours but Lailah’s oh so boring that I spent more time doing other things than reading it.  I really expected that Lailah’s going to be a one-of-a-kind story about angels and vampires considering the number of its Wattpad readers.  Alas, I was wrong and it just left me regretting the fact that I haven’t DNFed it at 50 pages. Set…

Book Review: Golden Son

It is without a doubt that Pierce Brown has successfully cemented his place on my favorite authors’ list with this Red Rising sequel. Before picking up the Golden Son, there was this gnawing fear that the awesome Red Rising that I’ve read in late 2013 was just a product of a wonderful dream. To be honest, it took a lot of courage for me to pick up this book because there’s always the possibility that it has been infected with the Second Book Syndrome. Thankfully, Pierce Brown has lots of tricks up his sleeve to ensure that Golden Son will…
