Book Review: Kindling

Kindling has a lot of promise that made me pick it out of the the numerous ARCs offered in Edelweiss. It promised to give me an epic fantasy read condensed into one book instead of a crazy 10-book epic fantasy series, I mean who would not pick it up? Unfortunately, that is the main weakness of the book. There were so many leading characters, seven of them, to know but so little page time. It just wasn’t enough to build the angst and the pain to make me hurt for these Kindlings. I could neither relate to their journey nor…

Book Review: Bone Roots

After finishing Bone Roots, the first thing that came to mind was “This was weird. Weird in a very good way.” It’s not your typical Disney fairy tale story but nonetheless, Bone Roots has all the feels of a good fairy tale story. The lore, the characters, the setting, and the plot were all perfect. I am not so familiar with Slavic folklore so there’s also the novelty when I dove into the book. Book Review: The Scarlet Veil

I’m actually torn about this book. I enjoyed it and at the same time, it frustrated me a lot. For one, I enjoyed Celie’s growth as a character and how she coped up with her horrid past. I also like the how the story was structured and how it flowed seamlessly. No scenarios, no convos were forced. And surprisingly, I have grown to like all the characters despite the fact that I did not even read the prequel series of this series. Yes, when I jumped into Scarlet Veil, I was quite disoriented for the first few pages because I…

Book Review: The Upside of Unrequited

Albertalli is now getting promoted from my Author Watch list to my Favorite Authors List. Though I enjoyed The Homo Sapiens Agenda more (Simon and Blue FTW), The Upside of Unrequited has its own charm to draw in readers to its universe. The whole set up of the story was very enjoyable, realistic, and an eye opener. So the story is about a seventeen year old girl, Molly Peskin-Suso. She’s a food lover, is fat, very creative, and has lots of crushes but surprisingly, none of them got to be her boyfriend. Her parents are lesbian and bisexual but both…
