Fangs for Nothing is a kooky, spooky, vampire romance full to the cauldron-brim with fake dating, a meddling smutty book club, murder and mystery aplenty, endless cups of tea, quirky characters, and a broody vampire with an ass so fine, Geralt of Rivia comes to him for fitness tips.
Wow! Who would have thought that I’d be able to fish a treasure from Netgalley? Fangs for Nothing was a pleasant surprise because to be honest, my expectation for it is that it would just be another vampire story. And the primary reason why I picked it up because of it’s gorgeous purple cover. It definitely spoke to me and I just had to hit that request button. I’m so glad that the story lived up to the gorgeous cover!
Right off the bat, Fangs for Nothing immediately hooked me as I was introduced to our main protagonists, Alaric and Winnie. As both characters were quirky, funny, and heavily developed, it was so easy to get invested in them and in their relationship. But romantic aspect aside, everything about Fangs for Nothing was just beautifully written. Nothing felt superficial. There’s the right amount of spook, suspense, romantic sizzle, fun, and self-reflection all contained in one book. I love that despite the book being heavy on the romance, it did not forget about the other important aspects of the story such as the murder to be solved, the individual challenges that our protagonists must face, and of course, the development of our other characters.
Overall, the whole vibe of Fangs for Nothing really matched mine. Every page was a gift and just halfway through, I was already looking forward to getting my hands on the next installment only to find out that it’s not even written yet as of this review. Hahaha. Oops. Maybe, I would just have to settle with Steffanie Holmes’ previous writings while waiting for book 2. So what I’m trying to say here is go and get this book. It’s definitely worth your time. While the story is your usual vampire story, you will appreciate how the author was so innovative in embellishing the familiar with her own spices making the story charming and fresh. If you are stressed and looking to unwind with a good book, this is a perfect read whether it’s the spooky season or not. And yeah, hands down to Winnie being a decluttering expert. I wish I could be like her. Hah!
