Book Review: A Betrayal of Storms

The title of this book couldn’t have been more apt after reading it. I just felt betrayed because I deeply believed that A Betrayal of Storms was in the same vein as A Court of Roses and Thorns only to find out that I was misled by the blurb. Using ACOTAR as the standard, A Betrayal of Storms would really fall short since it doesn’t have the charisma, the heart, and the whimsy the former has. While I was reading  A Betrayal of Storms, I felt like I was running a daily errand that I just want to finish as…

Book Review: Shoestring Theory

Finally, another gem in my pile of digital ARCs! I am so glad that I found it on Netgalley and requested for the ARC because I absolutely loved everything about it. The expectation was that it’s going to be your typical cozy fantasy story wherein every trope will be thrown at you and you just have to deal with it. I am so glad that Shoestring Theory offered a lot of new things which put a smile on my face. For a debut novel, Mariana Costa did a wonderful job with Shoestring Theory. She has a good grasp about what…

Book Review: Bone Roots

Weird in a very good way.” It’s not your typical Disney fairy tale story but nonetheless, Bone Roots has all the feels of a good fairy tale story. The lore, the characters, the setting, and the plot were all perfect. I am not so familiar with Slavic folklore so there’s also the novelty when I dove into the book. Also, it was a very refreshing read on my part because the only love story involved here was that of two mothers trying their very best…

Book Review: Skyfarer

Finally, I was able to mine a gem in Netgalley. Despite some minor issues, Skyfarer didn’t disappoint from beginning to end. The story goes like this: An apprentice sorceress, Aimee de Laurent, just finished school and had a taste of what the real world is by becoming a portal mage for a spaceship named Elysium. As she was learning the ropes, Aimee and the rest of Elysium’s crew crossed paths with an evil, powerful and ruthless mage knight, Lord Azrael, who is on a quest to find the Axiom Diamond by any means possible. Wow! This was a highly entertaining…
