Book Review: Thieves’ Gambit

The Thieves’ Gambit definitely surprised me because I tempered my expectations for it given the average ratings it got from Goodreads. The novel definitely matched my mood when  I was reading it; no dilly-dallying, straightforward, and packed with action. The story immediately introduces us to our narrator, Ms Rosalyn Quest, thief extraordinaire and a member of a large thieving family in the North American Continent. She is very close to her likewise thief extraordinaire Mom and Aunt who seemingly had retired from thieving. While Rosalyn definitely has all the material things her illustrious can afford her, her deepest desire is…

Book Review: Breakaway

After weeks of toiling, it’s always nice to unwind and curl up with a short and straightforward book. Much better if the said book doesn’t need a lot of mental gymnastics. Thankfully, Breakaway managed to be the perfect book to curl up with. It was a pleasant surprise considering that the book’s premise screams loudly of cliché. Well, it is. We’ve got a female heroine who’s struggling to make her mark in the world after realizing that she had spent a large part of her life being the shadow of her famous boyfriend. And a male protag who already had…

And wow, Kenneally delivered.  Keneally’s world of swimming was intricate, competitive and realistic. Just like Kenneally’s characters in the previous books,  Coming Up For Air has a bunch of lovable and goal-oriented characters.  Though there’s something that bothered me about Maggie, I still liked her because…

Book Review: The Upside of Unrequited

Albertalli is now getting promoted from my Author Watch list to my Favorite Authors List. Though I enjoyed The Homo Sapiens Agenda more (Simon and Blue FTW), The Upside of Unrequited has its own charm to draw in readers to its universe. The whole set up of the story was very enjoyable, realistic, and an eye opener. So the story is about a seventeen year old girl, Molly Peskin-Suso. She’s a food lover, is fat, very creative, and has lots of crushes but surprisingly, none of them got to be her boyfriend. Her parents are lesbian and bisexual but both…
