Book Review: Bone Roots

After finishing Bone Roots, the first thing that came to mind was “This was weird. Weird in a very good way.” It’s not your typical Disney fairy tale story but nonetheless, Bone Roots has all the feels of a good fairy tale story. The lore, the characters, the setting, and the plot were all perfect. I am not so familiar with Slavic folklore so there’s also the novelty when I dove into the book. Also, it was a very refreshing read on my part because the only love story involved here was that of two mothers trying their very best…

Book Review: The Scarlet Veil

I’m actually torn about this book. I enjoyed it and at the same time, it frustrated me a lot. For one, I enjoyed Celie’s growth as a character and how she coped up with her horrid past. I also like the how the story was structured and how it flowed seamlessly. No scenarios, no convos were forced. Book Review: The Hollow Girl

Forgive the lateness of this review and I hope that it does not give the impression that it’s because I hate the book. As a matter of fact, the Hollow Girl is the best book that I’ve read in 2017. If you know me, I don’t normally read horror stories because it’s not just my genre and you know, nightmares. But after reading the synopsis, I knew that I had to pick it up and told myself that “Let’s try this for once.” And so I did. Oh boy, no regrets so far because after page 1, there was no…

Book Review: Avalanche

Back when I found this book on Netgalley, I seriously thought of the film “Alive” and assumed that this would be on the same vein as the film, only middle grade version. But I was wrong. There were no dramas, no human cannibalism, and perverse misery. There’s only practicality and determination to live. Avalanche was entertaining to some extent but you have to accept the fact that it’s a book designed for Middle Grade and it’s really short. In my own opinion, it’s more of a guide or compilation of tips on how to survive in the event of an…
