Book Review: Thieves’ Gambit

The Thieves’ Gambit definitely surprised me because I tempered my expectations for it given the average ratings it got from Goodreads. The novel definitely matched my mood when  I was reading it; no dilly-dallying, straightforward, and packed with action. The story immediately introduces us to our narrator, Ms Rosalyn Quest, thief extraordinaire and a member of a large thieving family in the North American Continent. She is very close to her likewise thief extraordinaire Mom and Aunt who seemingly had retired from thieving. While Rosalyn definitely has all the material things her illustrious can afford her, her deepest desire is…

Book Review: The Wolf Den

I am not sure how to review The Wolf Den because my knowledge about Italy’s history is very little. I must admit that choosing this book amongst the TBR pile was a result of getting convinced by one of the book bloggers I’ve been following for a very long time. The thing that really caught my interest was the synopsis for it literally spelled out that the story would be following the life of a prostitute.  So I said, sign me up for this. It’s not every day that you get to come across a historical, non-erotica book which tackles…

Book Review: The Hurricane Wars

I never knew that this book existed until I downloaded the eARC of Monsoon Rising from Edelweiss. My bad for not reading the synopsis properly because if I had, I would have known that Monsoon Rising is already the 2nd book of The Hurricane Wars series. The Hurricane Wars follows the story of two protagonists who are rivals due to the circumstances of their birth: Talasyn and Alaric. On the first page…

Book Review: Witch Wife

When I read the Witch Wife’s synopsis as I was browsing Netgalley for new books to request, I did not think twice hitting the request button. I thought this was a historical novel with fantastical elements. You can color me surprised because halfway into the book, I got what I asked for and more. The Witch Wife is not just historical fiction which the synopsis would lead you to believe. It’s a cross between sci-fi, historical fiction, and fantasy. Heh. The story is heavily focused on the struggles of our heroine, Irene Shannon, a courageous high ranking official of the…
