Book Review: Fyre

Well, that was disappointing.  Years and years of following the Septimus Heap series and all I get is a conclusion that is crammed with unnecessary scenes and characters that didn’t grow at all.  I don’t know if my standards have improved or this book was just awful. I used to enjoy the series during my pre-blogging days.  The series was not ground breaking but still, it was fun to read. This last installment though was pure torture. 684 pages of senseless stuff going on and on that I just want to set the book on fyre and end my misery.…

Book Review: Red Queen

This one’s a disappointment. Instead of a book hangover, Red Queen left me questioning myself whether its positive points are worth the pain that I have to go through while reading the whole thing.  It’s not essentially a bad book but I just can’t connect with the story, with the characters, and the whole love quadrangle.  The premise, while not that original, was I think one of the reasons why I picked up this book.  Got to admit that I wasn’t over the whole Red Rising craze and I thought that the Red Queen would fill the gap left by…

Book Review: House of Ivy and Sorrow

I think I should take a break from reading ARCs. I swear that this is the nth ARC I’ve given a less than 3 star rating this year.  And it makes me feel guilty because most of the ARCs that I’ve reviewed are debut novels. It’s like I am the Grinch, hellbent on crushing the dreams of new authors. >,< Though the House of Ivy & Sorrow was a pretty decent read, the calculator side of my personality wouldn’t just give in. There are so many reasons for me to enjoy this book but things were just off.  I was…

Book Review: The Way of Kings

The Way of The Kings is one of those few books that has every right to be lengthy, a bit draggy and verbose. And yet, you find yourself slowly falling in love with it.  It is the type of book that you want to read before you go to sleep and the one you wanna hold right after you wake up.  I was supposed to finish The Way of Kings on March as part of a read-a-long event wherein the organizers controlled the number of pages that we should read every week…~100 pages/week.  But I broke that rule… I finished…
